Our History

The Church of Christ in Trinity Gardens had its beginning on January 6, 1953, at 4911 Sadler Street at Lockwood Drive, in the home of Brother Jezell Lyles, wife Thelma and his four sisters, Ruthie Mae, Trudie, Jeruthie, and Georgia. Then, on January 24, 1953, the first Lord’s Day worship service was held 3:00 pm at 7511 Lockwood Drive in the home of Bro. Bena and Josie Carr.

Another site for our worship was under the tent at 7716 Lockwood with Bro. Francis Sonier. Bro. M.C. Daniels, Sr. accepted the challenge of serving as minister and leader having faith in God that one day we would have a permanent place to worship. Being small in number but large in faith, we also met from house to house as many as three times a week, Much support came by way of the church in Settegast (Now North Wayside) with the late great evangelist Paul settles, Sr.

The church in Settegast encouraged us with their prayers, finance, and presence as well as any other spiritual and material blessings they could supply. They stood by us until we were able to stand on our own. For that, we are most grateful. Some of the visiting ministers to come our way were: Roosevelt Bradley, Jack Evans, Sam Miles, Paul Settles Sr., James Stewart, and Walter Weathers. The first worship service at 7725 Sandra was held December 26, 1954, in a  house on one lot.

Under the leadership of Bro. M.C Daniels Sr, the church constructed a worship sanctuary in 1968 to replace the older building. Later, in 1992, an educational wing and fellowship hall were constructed.

Bro. M.C Daniels went home to be with the Lord in 1995 after faithfully serving and leading the church for 42 years. Sister Trudie Daniels passed in 2001. She diligently served alongside her husband in numerous capacities such as counselor, bible school teacher, youth director, and youth choir director. She contributed greatly to the growth of the church.

In 1995, the church selected Brother Timothy Daniels to serve as Senior Minister. The church family has continued to grow and is now involved in over 40 active ministries serving the church and the community.

In 2007, a new sanctuary, educational building, and gymnasium (family life center) were constructed.

Our previous facility has been home to the Youth Development Center for the last four years.  The Youth Development Center (YDC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire, equip, and guide urban youth to live successful lives.  It operates an after-school academic remediation program that addresses literacy development for inner-city students in grades 3 – 8.  Several members of the Trinity Gardens church family serve on the staff with other gifted teachers and administrators from other
parts of the city.

We thank God for our past and we are trusting His grace for the future.
